Berlin (d.de) – German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has called for a “global effort” to jointly tackle the wide-ranging crises worldwide. “There are no isolated crises,” the chancellor said at the Global Solutions Summit in Berlin, explaining that Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine for example had driven up energy and food prices worldwide. Climate change was a global challenge with impacts on business, finance, health, security and politics, he added.

It was therefore not enough for individual countries or regions of the world to address only the problem nearest to them geographically or politically, Scholz said. With the limited resources that even the most influential countries have at their disposal, at best only the local symptoms of a global polycrisis could be mitigated.

The theme of the 2024 Global Solutions Summit is “Moving Beyond the Crisis: Mobilizing Change for Global Prosperity”. Experts from the fields of politics, science and business are discussing global challenges at the event. The meeting is taking place ahead of the G7 leaders’ summit in Italy in June. The first Global Solutions Summit was held in 2017 during Germany’s G20 presidency.
