Thousands demonstrate in Berlin for freedom in Iran
They want to give a voice to the people in Iran. Numerous international organisations gather at the Brandenburg Gate.
Berlin (dpa) - In protest against the authoritarian regime in Teheran and to demonstrate their solidarity with the people in Iran, thousands of people took to the streets in Berlin on Saturday. According to police reports, up to 10,000 people gathered at the Brandenburg Gate. A broad alliance of international organisations had announced the “Freedom for Iran” demonstration on social media, in flyers and by taking out large ads in some newspapers. The police spoke of a “completely peaceful” demonstration. The protestors marched to Potsdamer Platz and then back to the Brandenburg Gate.
Around 340 international organisations and political figures supported the demonstration. According to the organisers, the demonstrators included many relatives of those killed or arrested during the most recent protests in Iran.
