WE DRIVE WHILST THE CAR THINKS. It’s not quite that easy yet. But mobility assistance systems are playing an increasingly important role in the car industry.
Researchers at the German Aerospace Center (DLR) are currently developing a technique to automatically park cars in public parking spaces. They want drivers to be able to leave their cars, which then automatically find a free parking space and independently move into it. Later, the driver can then recall the car via smartphone. BMW (photograph) has developed an intermodal system which intelligently links the car with public transport
networks in cities to reach the destination quickly. “In this way, BMW is
supporting sustainable mobility,” says Martin Hauschild, Head of Traffic
Technology and Traffic Management at
BMW.
