Research-based industry
The mechanical engineering and automotive industries are financing a large amount of research.
COMPETITIVE. These investments pay: according to a recent study by the Donors’ Association for the Promotion of Humanities and Sciences in Germany, global investment in research and development by German industry recently increased by 8.4 percent to €52.45 billion. The mechanical engineering and the automotive industries – including the five largest companies (VW, Daimler, Bosch, Siemens and BMW) – were particularly keen to invest. Germany rose to fourth place in the Global Competitiveness Index of the World Economic Forum.
