The German edition of the trilogy Orbitor (Blinding) has 1,834 pages – Romanian author Mircea Cărtărescu spend 14 years writing his masterpiece. In March, at the start of the Leipzig Book Fair, it was awarded the Book Prize for European Understanding as a “monumental, excessive, border-shattering prose work” which is simultaneously an artist’s, city and world novel.

The three volumes deal with simply everything: birth and death, life, memories, obsessions – a social portrait against the backdrop of the revolution in Bucharest.
