For the first time in the history of the popular Internet conference, a member of the Federal Government will appear on the re:publica stage. Federal Environmental Minister Barbara Hendricks (SPD) will discuss the online-based campaign “Zusammen ist es Klimaschutz” (i.e. Put it all together and you get climate protection) with the Net community. Her ministry launched the campaign at the end of 2014. Using unconventional videos and contemporary presentation, the action under the hashtag #ziek has caused a considerable stir in Germany. With this campaign the Ministry of Environment wants to show that each individual person can make a contribution to climate protection. At re:publica, Hendricks will comment on the experience of the campaign. But the organizers also want to discuss the “viral ignition stages of the climate protection campaign” to find out what influence the early integration of the sustainability community exercised. At the start of “Put it all together and you get climate protection”, numerous bloggers put critical questions to Hendricks in a direct dialogue with the Ministry.

Central social media conference in Europe

Since its inception in 2007, re:publica has developed into one of the most important social media conference in Europe, boasting several thousand visitors. Announced for the ninth edition, bearing the motto “Finding Europe”, are more than 450 speakers from over 45 countries. All lectures and discussions at the former Berlin-Kreuzberg post office will be transmitted live as video streams on the Internet.
