99 per cent of people in Germany use the mass media every day, and not just briefly. They spend more than seven hours a day using computers, mobile phones and television. An overview.

Television

Daily consumption: 3 hours 33 minutes.

Most popular TV format: 1. News (38.8 per cent), 2. Sports programmes (25.7 per cent), 3. Travel programmes (24.2 per cent).

Highest viewing figures in 2020: The Tatort crime series, episode 1143, titled Limbus, broadcast 8 November 2020 (12.94 million viewers).

Television: Among the total population 72 per cent use linear TV every day; in the 14 to 29-year-old age group 72 per cent use streaming services.

Daily consumption: 4 hours.

Daily listeners: 53 million people.

Number of radio stations in Germany: 443.

Most popular radio stations: 1. Radio NRW (1.5 million listeners per day), 2. Bayern 1 (1.1 million), 3. SWR 3 (998,000).

Newspapers

Newspapers in Germany 2019: 347 daily papers, 27 weekly papers, 7 Sunday papers.

Regular newspaper readers: 59.7 million people.

Readership of printed newspapers: 56 per cent of the German-speaking population.

Readership of printed and digital newspapers: 84.6 per cent of the German-speaking population.

Highest circulation of national daily newspapers: 1. Bild (1.32 million, Q2 2020), 2. Süddeutsche Zeitung (306,553, Q3 2020), 3. Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung (199,899, Q3 2020).
