Podcasts from Germany
Learn German and find out about Germany at the same time: we present podcasts for expats and people interested in Germany.
Learn German through podcasts
If you want to learn a new language and use it in everyday life, you need to practise your listening comprehension. There’s probably no medium that is better suited to this than podcasts. There are numerous offerings that enable learners of German at all levels to practise free of charge and while they’re out and about. The podcast “ok.danke.tschüss” produced by the Goethe-Institut is aimed at beginners. “Langsam Gesprochene Nachrichten” is a podcast produced by the German international broadcasting company Deutsche Welle: it is aimed at advanced learners from language level B2 upwards. Current news, presented slowly and clearly, not only improves listeners’ language skills, it also provides them with information about current events in Germany.
Find out about Germany
Anyone who wants to find out more about Germany beyond the news will quickly find an option to suit their interests in the diverse podcast landscape. One episode of the podcast “Radio Spaetkauf”, produced in collaboration with the European Academy Berlin, is about graffiti and street art in the German capital. Produced by the state-run business development organisation Germany Trade & Invest, “INTO GERMANY!” is a German business podcast in English. Every month a team of journalists and experts discuss interesting stories from Europe’s largest economy.
From expat to expat
What seems normal for Germans can often seem rather unusual from the perspective of an expat: from everyday bureaucracy and wine tours to the linguistic courtesy of addressing somebody with the formal Sie. “The Germany Experience” is about life in Germany as seen from the perspective of newcomers. In addition to advice and tips, it also features fun stories about the differences and similarities between different cultures. Meanwhile the show “Why Germany?” has expats living in Germany tell their very personal stories in the form of interviews.
