In an emergency Germans should
be able to manage for ten days with the provisions they have at home. This is a recommendation contained in a new civil defence plan that describes the procedures in the event of natural disasters or attacks. Federal Interior Minister Thomas de Maizière said that the time had come to update the plan again after its
last revision in 1995. He denied the accusation of scaremongering: “We all want to be spared larger crises. Nevertheless, it makes sense to prepare for scenarios of this kind in an appropriate and cool-headed way.”
