One million fans were at hand to greet the 2014 World Cup winners at the airport, on the streets and along the special fan zone in Berlin. Shortly before landing, the pilot had taken the aircraft over the fan zone at a height of only 600 meters – to everyone’s delight. The team captained by Philipp Lahm landed in Berlin at 10.08 a.m. on special flight LH 2014 – the aircraft had specially been emblazoned with the word “Siegerflieger” – the champions’ plane. The players then all donned shirts with the no. 1 on the front, boarded a black bus, and then the open “CHAMPIONS” truck with “1954, 1974, 1990, 2014!” written on its sides – heading to the Brandenburg Gate to celebrate there together with the adoring fans. The DFB convoy arrived at the world-famous Berlin landmark at about 12.30 p.m., where the team had a special surprise in store for their fans: They unfurled a banner saying “Obrigado Fans! Der 4. Stern ist unser” – Thanks Fans. The Fourth Star is Ours.
