Interesting TEDx talks, exciting interlocutors and a “market of opportunities”: on 15 April 2016 interested parties can experience “Cultural and Foreign Policy Live” at the Station Berlin at Gleisdreieck in Berlin. For the first time the full range of foreign cultural and educational work will be gathered together in one place. The event is part of the forum “Moving People”, to which the Federal Foreign Office has invited representatives of foreign cultural and educational policy (AKBP) and several hundred schoolchildren, teachers and alumni of German schools abroad and partner schools. Others who would like to join in and extend the discussions, experimenting and creative networking are cordially invited to do so on the last day of the forum. Required is a registration at the website https://www.menschenbewegen-2016.de/akbp/ and for the relevant event.

Cultural work in refugee camps

The official programme begins of 15 April at 9:30 AM with a welcome and music from the NGO “Action for Hope”. The organization sees cultural work as part of humanitarian aid to refugees and helps people give expression to their traumatic experiences in theatre sequences, music and art. In so-called TEDx talks, beginning at 11:15 AM, speakers will then have a maximum of 15 minutes to present their ideas on stage. The speakers include the four-time World Champion and twelve-time Paralympics Winter Sport Champion Verena Bentele and the Saudi Arabian artist Abdulnasser Gharem, whose works have been exhibited at the British Museum. After workshops on wheelchair basketball, a poetry slam and so-called “speak-dating” for foreign language learning organized by the Goethe-Institut, Shermin Langhoff, artistic director of the Berlin Maxim Gorki Theatre, will speak in the afternoon. Her award-winning work is an example of post-migrant theatre. At 6 PM the Federal Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier will give an address on the achievements, goals and visions of foreign cultural and educational policy. Afterwards the DJ Capitan Shakti will open the party.

Market of Opportunities

Throughout the day the partners of the AKBP will present themselves in numerous interactive features and at information booths at the “Market of Opportunities”. The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and the German UNESCO Commission have lounges and the Frankfurt Book Fair a reading meadow. Together with the voluntary service “kulturweit”, the Goethe-Institut presents educational biographies. The legendary techno club “Tresor” introduces “DJs of tomorrow” and the Syria Radio Network makes a special broadcast “Live from Berlin in Syria”.
