Climate Action Report shows fall in emissions
The German government’s report shows progress with reducing greenhouse gas emissions and makes it clear where more action is needed.

Berlin (d.de) – The German government’s Climate Action Report highlights the latest trends in climate-damaging emissions, climate action measures and the status of climate action programmes currently underway in Germany, while stressing the important role that social aspects play in climate action. The report shows that greenhouse gas emissions continued to decline in 2024 and that Germany, if it maintains its efforts, can achieve its 2030 climate target.
Total annual emissions dropped by 3.4 percent year-on-year in 2024. The latest projections for 2025 indicate that the national goal of cutting emissions by at least 65 percent by 2030, as compared with 1990 levels, could just be achieved with the measures currently in place. Unless further steps are taken, however, the goal of greenhouse gas neutrality by 2045 remains beyond reach. The Council of Experts on Climate Change stresses that additional measures are urgently needed - especially to reduce emissions in the transport and buildings sectors.
