Federal Government condemns attack on UN peacekeepers
A French soldier was killed in the incident in southern Lebanon. Previously, three Indonesian UN soldiers were killed.
Beirut/Berlin (d.de/dpa) – The Federal Government has strongly condemned the attack on UN peacekeepers in Lebanon, in which a French soldier was killed. UN peacekeepers must not be targeted, the Federal Foreign Office wrote on X. “Their safety must be guaranteed at all times. Those responsible for the attack must be held to account.”
The soldier who was killed was part of the UN mission UNIFIL (United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon), in which Germany is also involved. The attack occurred as the soldiers were clearing explosive devices on a road in southern Lebanon. In March, three Indonesian UNIFIL soldiers were killed in attacks.
