Funeral service in Solingen
The city of Solingen remembers the victims of the knife attack. Germany’s President Steinmeier and Chancellor Scholz also plan to meet with members of the emergency services.
Solingen (dpa) - On Sunday, the city of Solingen will be mourning the victims of the 23 August attack. Guests expected to attend the funeral service include Germany’s President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and Chancellor Olaf Scholz. At Solingen’s theatre and concert hall they plan to speak with the families, victims, members of the emergency services and other local residents. Steinmeier will then give a speech during the funeral service. Afterwards, a wreath will be laid silently at the site of the attack, followed by a minute of silence. In the attack, three people attending a festival to celebrate the city’s anniversary had been killed and eight others injured. The Islamic State (IS) terrorist group had claimed responsibility for the attack.
