Bodenheim (dpa) - Stocks of German wine have fallen significantly in 2020 - so there is more room for the new vintage. On the cut-off date of 31 July, 8.4 million hectolitres of wine and sparkling wine were stored in the cellars of producers and traders, according to the German Wine Institute (DWI). This is 7.4 percent less than a year earlier - partly due to the particularly good 2018 harvest. According to DWI Managing Director Monika Reule, the figures are a further indication of good sales of domestic wines. The per capita consumption of wine in Germany was recently 20.1 litres per year.
