National team begins World Cup preparations in Chicago
Germany’s national team has arrived in the USA. Before the World Cup begins, the team will play a warm-up match against host nation USA.
Chicago (dpa) – Germany’s national footballteam has landed in the USA. Head coach Julian Nagelsmann’s team reached Chicago on Tuesday evening and moved into its quarters at the Waldorf Astoria hotel.
Now that the players selected by the DFB to take part in the tournament have arrived, they will immediately begin preparing for the World Cup in North America. Despite taking off late amid bad weather in Frankfurt, the Airbus A350 “Wuppertal” landed in Chicago at 3.28 pm local time. All 26 players of the German World Cup squad were on board.
Today (Wednesday) will see Germany undertake its first training session in Chicago. On Saturday, the team will face co-host USA in a pre-World Cup warm-up match. Having recently suffered from a calf muscle injury, Manuel Neuer could then be back in the national team’s goal for the first time since 2024.
The 2026 World Cup will be played in the USA, Canada and Mexico. Germany is one of the teams hoping to win the championship.
