Young generation more diverse than ever
According to the latest Report on Children and Young People, young people in Germany are hopeful about the future, but want more guidance and participation.
Berlin (d.de) – Children and young people in Germany are growing up more diverse than ever in terms of ethnicity, religion and gender identity. This was the conclusion of the 17th Children and Young People’s Report, which Federal Minister for Youth Lisa Paus presented along with experts. The report also shows that the situation facing young people in German is shaped by overlapping challenges such as wars, climate change, global refugee migration, and the aftershocks of the pandemic, along with shortages of skilled workers and pressures on democracy. Most young people in Germany are optimistic about the future. However, their optimism is declining. Nevertheless, many young people are keen to play a part in politics and society.
“Young people need to be confident that their rights and voices will be heard in political and social decisions. That’s why I’m working on a national action plan which will demonstrate the binding and effective possibilities for children’s and young people’s participation,” said Youth Minister Paus.
