Zelenskiy to meet US and European representatives in Berlin
When will there be peace in Ukraine? Initiated by US President Trump, the negotiations on ending the war will be entering their next round today in Berlin.
Berlin/Kyiv/Moscow (dpa) – Talks between representatives of the USA and Ukraine on ending the Russian war of aggression will continue with European participation today in Berlin. The negotiations will initially take place at adviser level in a closed session. German negotiators are also to take part in the talks. The USA had previously announced that special envoy Steve Witkoff would be travelling to Berlin. The location and time of the talks have not been disclosed.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy also confirmed that he would be participating in the talks in Berlin. However, it is not known whether he will be arriving today or on Monday.
This is the first time that Germany has been chosen as the location for negotiations since the controversial peace plan was put forward by the Trump administration. In early December, Witkoff had met with Russian President Vladimir Putin to go through the plan, which originally contained 28 points. The Kremlin has rejected the latest European changes to the peace plan, describing them as unacceptable. Trump in his turn is putting pressure on Ukraine to agree to a peace deal.
