An online magazine exclusively for readers
Krautreporter has found enough subscribers to launch an advertising-free online magazine.

They want to be independent of advertising and the need to maximise the number of clicks. Their online magazine is to be made exclusively for readers, say the makers of Krautreporter, whose name includes a pun on the English word “crowd”. Which already brings us to the unusual way in which Sebastian Esser and his fellow journalists want to finance their work: by crowdfunding. For several months they appealed for contributions from everyone who might be interested. At least 15,000 future subscribers had to be found by mid-June 2014 to launch the magazine. Krautreporter managed it, partly thanks to support from the Rudolf Augstein Foundation.
