A BROAD DISCUSSION. We have to talk: Deutsch 3.0 is a new initiative of the Goethe-Institut to promote exchange through language. Together with the Standard Duden Dictionary, the Institute for the German Language and the Association for the German Science System, it is launching interactive, interdisciplinary and multimedia “debates about language and its future”. Over the course of a whole year the series of events will tour Germany, the Netherlands, Austria, Switzerland and Hungary and at the same time seek
answers to multifaceted questions by means of an Internet exchange platform: How is our language changing? To what extent is our future multilingual? What will German look
like in the future? These are just
three examples of the challenges addressed by Deutsch 3.0. The thematic emphases are reflected in the headings Science and Education, Economics and Language, Multilingualism and New Media and Digitization. All interested parties can engage in digital discussion on a number of channels: from an online forum to Twitter to personal video messages.
