Learning together, celebrating together
Several hundred school students, teachers, principals and alumni are meeting for the Federal Foreign Office forum Menschen Bewegen (Moving People) to discuss education.
An opportunity to network and discuss education: the Federal Foreign Office and its partners are highlighting the scope and success of their joint activities in international cultural relations and education policy at the Menschen Bewegen (Moving People) forum from 13 to 15 April. Several events, including for the first time a Long Night
of Ideas, aim to present international cultural relations and education policy as a strategic element of foreign policy “internally” – in other words, make its strategic benefit for German society known and accessible.
On 13 April, Federal Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier opens a forum called “World Class! School. Education. Future.” in the World Hall at the Federal Foreign Office. Several hundred school students, teachers, principals and alumni from international partner schools of the PASCH initiative, which was founded in 2008, will introduce the programme and then discuss the ideas and opportunities of cultural relations and education policy in a panel debate. In intervals between
the thematic blocks, PASCH students from all over the world will send digital video messages to the hall. PASCH is a success story – some 600,000 school students in 129 countries worldwide are now learning German at roughly 1,800 partner schools abroad.
On 14 April, students and teachers will work in project groups on subjects such as Europe, codetermination and inclusion. The results will be presented in Station Berlin at Gleisdreieck on 15 April. The Long Night of Ideas on the evening of 14 April
will enable participants to look into the future and raise new questions at 15 prominent locations in Berlin’s cultural landscape – covering a wide range of subjects, including the consequences of digitisation, the production of knowledge and culture, dialogue between societies and gaming.
On 15 April, visitors and guests can experience “culture and foreign policy live” in Station Berlin at Gleisdreieck with events ranging from workshops to TED talks. To round off the forum, the location will be transformed into a dance floor with DJ. Then it will not only be a case of learning and working together, but also celebrating together.
