Anna Elendt is world champion in 100 metre breaststroke
Anna Elendt causes a German swimming sensation in Singapore. She wins gold with a new relaxed approach.

Singapur (dpa) - Completely stunned, Anna Elendt held her hand over her mouth as she looked at the display board, unable to believe her eyes. On it, the number one was lit up against a gold background. “I was speechless when I saw the number one,” the 23-year-old said. Her world championship title in the 100 metre breaststroke is a swimming sensation. On the third day of the pool competitions in Singapore, Elendt has provided the German Swimming Federation team with its second medal. Lukas Märtens got the ball rolling on Sunday when he scooped gold in the 400 metre freestyle. For the first time since Britta Steffen and Paul Biedermann did so in 2009, two Germans have again won gold in a world championship pool event. Märtens is also one of the top favourites in the 800 metre freestyle. Only his teammate Sven Schwarz has swum this distance faster than Märtens so far this year.
