German as a foreign language plays an important role worldwide
In many countries Germany is considered an attractive place to work or train.

Berlin (d.de) – The German language is in great demand around the world, especially in the working world. The recently conducted survey titled "German as a foreign language around the world" highlights that demand for German as a foreign language is growing especially in regions where Germany is regarded an attractive place to work, train or study. Egypt, India, Kenya and Colombia are among the countries named. German is also becoming increasingly sought-after in countries with demographic growth which the local labour markets struggle to absorb, such as Cameroon, Morocco, Nepal and Uzbekistan. Here, too, learning German is associated with professional mobility and career prospects in Germany. Demand for German classes for adults has been rapidly increasing in these countries since the Skilled Immigration Act entered into effect in 2023. The survey is conducted every five years, under the direction of the Federal Foreign Office (AA).
