German UN candidacy: respect, justice, peace
Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul held talks in New York in connection with Germany’s bid for a non-permanent seat on the Security Council.
New York (dpa) – In New York, Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul has presented Germany’s bid for a non-permanent seat on the UN Security Council for 2027/2028. The General Assembly is due to vote on the matter on June 3. Germany is competing with Austria and Portugal in the election.
Wadephul met UN ambassadors from various countries. At the German House, he spoke to diplomats about the “current challenges facing multilateralism.” His programme also included a speech to representatives of the African Group at the UN. At a reception, Wadephul presented a clip promoting the “More than a Seat” campaign. Its message: “We’re prepared to listen – and take action. For respect, justice and peace.” Respect, justice and peace are the guiding principles of Germany’s candidacy.
