Germany and Poland wish to enhance their cooperation
The Foreign Ministers Wadephul and Sikorski highlighted the two countries’ friendship.

Berlin (dpa) – Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul and his Polish counterpart Radoslaw Sikorski want to promote cooperation between the two countries. “I expect us to continue working together very closely as friends,” said Wadephul during a meeting with Sikorski in Berlin. Wadephul continued by saying that this included cooperation with France in the context of the Weimar Triangle, for example for supporting Ukraine. Germany and Poland were cooperating very closely and steadily, Wadephul said, adding that he had no doubts that the two countries' joint innovation and defence projects could be realised, too. The German Foreign Minister stressed that Germany and Poland were friends and that “we want to build on this”.
In view of the EU sceptic Karol Nawrocki being elected as Polish President, Sikorski said that it was an outcome of democracy that a representative of the opposition had won the presidential elections. Sikorski expressed his firm belief “that Poland and Germany can lead Europe through these difficult times together”. Wadephul, too, stressed the two countries’ “joint responsibility for peace, security and prosperity in Europe”. The two Foreign Ministers also spoke at the German-Polish Forum that took place at the Polish embassy, and during which the German education centre “Bildungsstätte Bredbeck” and the Polish director Elwira Niewiera were presented with the German-Polish Award.
