Klingbeil sees positive signals in the tariff dispute
Tariff barriers imposed by the USA are affecting world trade. The G7 Finance Ministers are attempting to find a resolution in Canada.

Banff (dpa) - After discussions involving the G7 finance chiefs, German Finance Minister Lars Klingbeil sees positive signals in the clash regarding the USA’s tariff policy. He perceived his American counterparts to be very constructive and solution-oriented, said Klingbeil at a fringe meeting of the G7 Finance Ministers in Banff, Canada. “This is a great sign.” It has been far from clear over the past weeks whether the Americans wanted to reach a settlement.
Klingbeil had also met with Scott Bessent, his US opposite number, for a private discussion. He spoke about a good start and further meetings are to be arranged. “We agreed in particular that we want to find solutions.” There are now felt to be a few weeks in which this must succeed during negotiations between the European Commission and the US representatives.
Klingbeil also recalled how it became clear at the conference that Ukraine could rely on massive solidarity and support from the G7 countries. “This is yet another sign of unanimity and cohesion.”
