Berlin (d.de) - One of the largest and most modern heart centres in Europe is being built at the Charité Campus Virchow-Klinikum in Berlin: The laying of the foundation stone for the new building of the Deutsches Herzzentrum der Charité (DHZC) represents a milestone for the future of cardiac medicine. “What is being built here is not just a hospital. It’s a trailblazer in high-techmedicine, a pacesetter for digital renewal, a driver of innovation,” stressed German Research Minister Dorothee Bär.

With some 30,000 square metres of floor space, one of Europe’s largest and most modern university heart centres is being built. The new DHZC will have over 320 patient beds and a total of 20 operating theatres, hybrid operating theatres and cardiac catheterisation labs.

Artificial intelligence will play an important role in patient care at the new DHZC. As a digital model clinic, the DHZC will set standards in high-tech medicine with robotic systems, a new hospital information system and sustainable building technology. The state of Berlin is investing 421 million euros, while the Federal Government is providing 100 million euros. Research Minister Bär emphasised: “As a digital model clinic, the new building will advance digitisation and the use of AI in cardiac medicine. Together, we are therefore proving that Germany can do top-class technology.”
