Berlin (d.de) – Together with international partners from trade unions, politics and science, the German Development Ministry in Berlin has opened a new Competence Centre for Human Rights Due Diligence. The Centre provides trade unions worldwide with a platform on which to gather and share expertise and experience when it comes to the practical implementation of human rights standards along global supply chains. It is part of Germany’s commitment in the area of development policy to strengthening exchange between business, trade unions and employees, protecting workers’ rights and establishing sustainable and resilient production practices.

In value chains such as textiles and critical raw materials, the Centre plans to organise pilot projects with trade unions from the Global South to promote workers’ rights.

The Federal Ministry of Development is supporting the work of the new Centre. UNI Global Union, IndustriALL Global Union, the Friedrich Ebert Foundation and the German Trade Union Confederation (DGB) are the Centre’s partners.
