Oasis for the mind
The German edition of the cultural magazine „Lettre International“ is celebrating its 25th anniversary.

NIVEAU SANS FRONTIERES. The 25th anniversary issue of the German edition of Lettre International has a typically self-mocking title. This European cultural magazine first appeared in Germany in 1988 as a trans-genre forum for essays, portraits, interviews, reports, letters and – not least – exclusive series of photographs and pictures. To this day, Frank Berberich is editor-in-chief of the quarterly magazine from Berlin, which stands out from other reading material at newsstands because of its abundance of long interdisciplinary texts. Lettre International has a circulation of 23,000 copies and over the past 25 years has published 3,000 texts by authors in 100 countries, most of which have been translated into 10 different languages. Swiss artist Max Grüter designed the cover of the anniversary issue of Lettre International, Number 100, which contains a review of the epochal changes over the years – from the demise of Communism to the genocide in Rwanda to the Arab Spring.
