Munich (dpa) - Germany’s Federal Government plans to invest several hundred million euros in the Bundeswehr Medical Academy in Munich over the coming years. “We are planning to invest 500 million here in the next few years. In the long term, this will amount to 800 million,” said Defence Minister Boris Pistorius during a visit to troops at the academy in the Bavarian state capital.

He described this as an unequivocal commitment to the site and to the corps itself. “The Bundeswehr Medical Academy is indispensable when it comes to national and alliance defence.”

Pistorius stressed that investments in the medical corps were just as important as buying “battle tanks, frigates, submarines, F-35s and other things”. He added that a defence-capable army definitely required an appropriately equipped medical corps, as this served as the force’s backbone in moral and health terms.
