Green Week opened
The world’s largest agriculture and food trade fair has begun in Berlin. Green Week celebrates its 100-year anniversary in 2026.
Berlin (dpa) - Pistachio croissants, potato waffles and calves in the animal hall: Visitors to Green Week in Berlin can until 25 January taste specialities and learn about food and agriculture – 100 years after its inauguration in 1926. Around 1,600 exhibitors from over 50 countries will be presenting their products, ideas and trends at the Berlin Exhibition Grounds in this anniversary year. Numerous prominent political guests are expected and, among others, Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and Federal Chancellor Friedrich Merz have announced their attendance.
Agriculture Minister Alois Rainer said that the leading international trade fair is “a recipe for success” as a showcase for the sector. The opening tour started in the hall dedicated to Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, this year’s partner state at Green Week. Prime Minister Manuela Schwesig emphasised the food and agriculture sector’s importance in Germany. Development Minister Reem Alabali Radovan said: “Far too many people in the world are still affected by hunger, especially children.” The Development Minister joined with partners at Green week to launch a support programme that provides regular school meals in Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean.
The event organisers expect more than 325,000 visitors. Topics this year include food prices and food security in times of international tension.
