Berlin (dpa) – Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul says progress has been made in efforts to secure a peace plan to end the war in Ukraine. He said that all issues relating to Europe and NATO had been removed from the original draft. “That is a major step forward we secured yesterday,” Wadephul told Deutschlandfunk, referring to talks in Geneva between representatives of the United States and Ukraine.

On Sunday, negotiators from Germany, France, the United Kingdom, Italy, the EU, Ukraine and the United States discussed the 28-point US proposal in various rounds of talks in Geneva. The US and Ukraine have since drawn up a revised version of the draft. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio spoke of “tremendous progress” at the talks. The remaining open questions were “not insurmountable”, Rubio said – without giving details of the outstanding issues.
