Berlin (dpa) - Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy is coming to Germany on Friday and will also meet with Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz. The two leaders plan to meet for one-on-one talks in Frankfurt am Main. Friday will also see another meeting begin at the US Ramstein Air Base in Rhineland-Palatinate aimed at supporting Ukraine in its defence against the Russian war of aggression. Numerous defence ministers and high-ranking military officials will meet for discussions there.

US Secretary of State Lloyd Austin invited the members of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group to the conference at the largest US air base outside the US. Around 50 states are members of the group, including Germany. As was the case at previous talks held in Ramstein, non-NATO states were also invited. Russia has been waging a war of aggression against neighbouring Ukraine since 24 February 2022. The West is helping Kyiv defend itself.
