Allies pledge “full support” for Zelenskiy
The Ukrainian president has briefed allies on his forthcoming peace talks with US President Donald Trump.
Berlin (dpa/d.de) — At the initiative of Federal Chancellor Friedrich Merz, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy briefed a group of heads of state and government, as well as representatives of the EU and NATO, on Saturday evening about his forthcoming peace talks with US President Donald Trump. Zelenskiy updated the so-called Berlin Group on the current state of negotiations. “The eleven heads of state and government from Europe and Canada, together with the leaders of NATO and the EU, assured Ukraine of their full support and underlined their commitment to working closely with the United States for a sustainable and just peace in Ukraine,” a government spokesperson said. President Trump is due to receive President Zelenskiy in Florida on Sunday.
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, who also took part in the talks, wrote on X that all efforts were welcome that would lead towards “our shared goal — a just and lasting peace that preserves Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity”.
