Germany and France seek to strengthen start-ups

Federal Finance Minister Klingbeil and his French counterpart Lombard want to cooperate to increase Europe's innovative capacity and competitiveness.

Berlin (d.de) – Federal Finance Minister Lars Klingbeil and his French counterpart Éric Lombard met at Genshagen Castle yesterday and announced a bilateral initiative, thus confirming their shared commitment for promoting innovation and competitiveness in Europe.  

The main goal of the German-French initiative is to improve access to private capital for growth companies. Both countries are united in their belief that Europe must create an environment in which innovative companies are able to evolve into global market leaders.  

“Start-ups are drivers of future growth. We want to create an environment where innovative companies can grow into global champions,” Klingbeil said.  

Lombard added: “To improve financing opportunities for start-ups and growth companies must be a priority for the EU. France and Germany are taking initiative in this respect today.” 

The ministers of finance have set up a task force that his led jointly by the Honorary Governor of the Banque de France, Christian Noyer, and the former Federal Finance Minister Jörg Kukies.
