(d.de) – The traditional bells have sounded to open the 34th Hanse Sail. Until Sunday, nearly 120 ships from nine nations will be docking in the Baltic Sea city of Rostock. This major maritime festival, which brings together traditional sailing vessels and museum ships, is again expected to attract hundreds of thousands of visitors. Until Sunday, a total of 16,000 people will have the chance to take a trip out onto the Baltic Sea on one of the many traditional ships.

The festival will also present Rostock as a sailing competition venue for Olympic Games that may possibly be held in Germany in 2036, 2040 or 2044.
