(d.de) – In the Quadriga 2025 series of exercises, the key role at sea is played by the marine manoeuvre Northern Coasts. Until 12 September 2025, multinational naval forces under Germany’s command are conducting exercises in the Baltic Sea to boost their national and alliance defence capabilities and demonstrate their presence.

The objectives of Northern Coasts 2025 include strengthening deployment capacity through practical training and improving coordination among naval forces and with commercial vessels. Operational command lies with the chief of the German Navy, Vice Admiral Jan Christian Kaack, supported by an international staff to control the exercise. Besides Germany, the Baltic Sea states of Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland and Sweden are taking part in the manoeuvre, as are Belgium, Canada, France, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom and the USA.
