Los Angeles (dpa) – The German director Maria Schrader has won the Emmy Award for outstanding directing in a limited series. Schrader received the award for her four-part series «Unorthodox» for the Netflix streaming service. In it, she tells the story of Esther, an ultra-orthodox Jew who flees from New York to Berlin Esther to escape her husband. «I am speechless», said the 54-year-old director, who is also a well-known actress, in a live transmission to Los Angeles on Sunday evening (local time), surrounded by some members of her team. Because of the corona pandemic, the event was hosted by Jimmy Kimmel at the Staples Center without an audience, with over 100 nominees in around 20 cities taking part via live streams, according to the producer.
